Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day
by Taleen Khalaf (May ‘01)
As you of course know, Mother’s Day is on the 13th of May. Many of us are going to go through extraordinary measures to make our moms happy, like taking them out to eat at a fancy restaurant, or buying expensive gifts. But for those who are low on the dough and high on love, here are some very inexpensive ways to show your mom you care.
-
Write a heartfelt poem describing why your mom is special to you.
-
Make chore coupons. Moms love those.
-
Write a song made just for your mom.
-
Make stationery or bookmarks with pressed flowers (check out “Fun With Flowers,” at right), or make a decorative vase filled with air-dried flowers.
-
Make breakfast in bed, just for your mom. Don’t forget to clean up afterwards.
-
Make a hug coupon – one for unlimited use.
-
Use the same idea as the hug coupon for a kiss coupon.
-
Make a free manicure and pedicure coupon (only if you know how to paint nails, of course!).
-
Use a picture with you and your mom in it, and lightly tape it in the center of a piece of typing paper. Then, decorate the paper with drawings around the picture of your mom’s favorite things: birds, flowers, trees, ... and then frame it! Don’t forget to write “Happy Mother’s Day” somewhere on the paper.
I hope these tips help you. Don’t forget to do the most important thing for your mom this Mother’s Day: say, “I love you.”
