Annual Conference for The Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion is Nov. 5-7

The Orthodox Christian Association of Medicine, Psychology, and Religion is honored that Fr. Stavros Kofinas, D.Min., will give the Keynote Address on Thursday evening, November 5, at its Annual Conference on November 5–7, 2015, followed by a wine and cheese reception.

Father Stavros is the Coordinator of the Network of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for Pastoral Health Care, and also serves as the celebrant at the Holy Monastery of St. Meletios of Kitherona in Greece.

The theme of the Conference is "Caregivers as Confessors and Healers" and will be held at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA, through November 7. The title of Fr. Stavros' talk is "Holy Confession and the Freedom to Be." He will also give a presentation describing the Patriarchal Program on Health Care during a special dinner on Friday, November 6.

Three additional Plenary Speakers will expand on the topic of "Caregivers as Confessors and Healers." Daniel Hinshaw, M.D., Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan School of Medicine, will present the medical perspective of the Conference theme. Lila Amirali, M.D., will focus on the psychological perspective. Dr. Amirali is the Director of the Pediatric Psychiatric Care Program and Clinical Director of the Department of Psychiatry at the Montreal Children's Hospital. The theological perspective will be shared by Fr. Vasileios Thermos, M.D., Ph.D., a psychiatrist and priest in the Church of Greece.

In addition, the Conference will host nine workshops on topics related to faith and healing, as well as numerous paper presentations. A luncheon presentation on the work of FOCUS (Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve) will be given by Nicholas Chakos, Executive Director of FOCUS North America.
