TROPARION OF THE RESURRECTION, IN TONE ONE

While the stone was sealed by the Jews, and the soldiers were guarding thy most pure body, thou didst arise on the third day, O Savior, granting life to the world. For which cause, the heavenly powers cried aloud unto thee, O giver of life: Glory to thy resurrection, O Christ, Glory to thy kingdom! Glory to thy providence, o thou who alone art the lover of mankind!

إنّ الحجرَ لمّا خُتِمَ من اليهودِ, وجسدَك الطاهرَ حُفِظَ من الجندِ, قُمْتَ في اليومِ الثالثِ أيّها المخلصُ, مانحاً العالمَ الحياة. فلذلك قواتُ السماواتِ هتفوا إليك يا واهبَ الحياة: المجدُ لقيامتِك أيها المسيح, المجدُ لملكِك, المجدُ لتدبيرِك يا مُحّبَ البشرِ وحْدَك.

 

TROPARION SAINT MENAS, EIGHTH TONE

Through abstinence the Holy Martyrs of Christ have mortified the impulse and disorder of their burning passions. During their lifetime and after their death, they received the grace of healing the sick and the power of performing miracles. It is a marvelous wonder indeed that healing should comes forth from mere bones. Glory be to our only God!

بالإمساكِ أمات شهداءُ المسيحِ شهواتِ الجسدِ الملتهِبة. وفي حياتِهم نالوا نعمةَ شفاءِ المرضى وبعد وفاتِهم صنعَ العجائب. فيا للمعجزِ أنَّ الشفاءَ ينبعُ من عظامٍ مجردةٍ. فالمجدُ لله وحده.

THE FEAST OF THE ANNUNCIATION IN TONE 4

Today is the begining of our salvation, and the manifestation of the mystery from the ages; for the Son of God becometh the Son of the Virgin, and Gabriel proclaimeth grace. Wherefore do we shout with him to the Theotokos, Hail O full of grace. The Lord is with thee.

اليومً رأس خلاصِنا وظهورُ السرِّ الذي منذ الدهور، لأنَّ ابنَ الله يصيرُ  ابنَ البتول وجبرائيلُ

  بالنعمةِ يُبشر.   لذلك فلنهتِفْ معه نحو  والدة الإلهُ  .إفرحي يا ممتلئةً نعمةً الربُ معك

 

KONTAKION PREPARATORY FOR NATIVITY, IN THIRD TONE

          Today the Virgin comes to the cave where she will give birth in an ineffable manner to the Word who is before all the ages. Rejoice, Therefore, O universe, when you hear it heralded: Glorify Him with the angels and the shepherds, who chose to be seen as a new-born babe, The God who is before all the ages.

اليومَ العذراءُ تأتي إلى المغارةِ, لتلدَ الكلمةَ الذي قبلَ الدهورِ, ولادةً لا تُفَسّر, ولا يُنْطَقُ بها, فافرحي أيتها المسكونةُ إذا سمعتِ, ومجّدي مع الملائكةِ والرعاةِ, الظاهرَ بمشئتِه طفلا جديداً, وهو الإلهُ قبلَ الدهورِ.

THE EPISTLE

Let Your mercy, O Lord be upon us,(Ps. 33<32>:22)

Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous.(Ps. 33<32>:1)

                The Reading from Saint Paul's letter to the Ephesians

                                              Ephesians 5:8-19

          Brethren, walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth). Find out what is acceptable to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do in secret. But every thing exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that makes manifest is light. Therefore He says: "Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you". Beware then how you walk with care, not as unwise but as wise, making good use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unlearned, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not get drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.

 

                                                      الرسالة

        لتكنْ يا ربّ رحمتُك علينا, ابتهجوا أيها الصدّيقون بالربّ.

        فصلٌ من رسالةِ القديسِ بولسَ الرسولِ إلى أهلِ أفسس.

        يا اخوةُ, سيروا سيرةَ أولادِ النور- فثمرُ الروحِ هو في كلّ صلاحٍ وبرٍ وحقٍ- واختبروا ما يُرضي الربّ. ولا تشتركوا في أعمالِ الظلمةِ غيرِ المثمرة, بل بالأولى أن تكشفوها. فما يفعلونه سِرّا نخجلُ حتى من ذكرِه. لكنْ ما انكشفَ أُعلن في النورِ، وكلّ ما يُعلن هو نورٌ. ولذلك يقول:        "استيقظْ أيها النائمُ, وقُمْ من بين الأموات فيضيءَ لك المسيح" فانظروا اذن كيف تسيرون سيرةَ العقلاءِ, لا سيرةَ الجهلاءِ, مفتدين الوقتَ لانّ الأيامَ شريرةٌ. فلا تكونوا أغبياء, بل افهموا ما هي مشيئةُ الربّ.  لا تسكروا بالخمرةِ التي فيها الخلاعةُ, بل امتلئوا بالروح. وكلّموا بعضُكم بعضاً بالمزاميرِ والتسابيحِ والاناشيدِ الروحية, مرنمين ومرتلين في قلوبكم للرب.

 

 

 

 

THE GOSPEL

The reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke (3:10‑17.)

And it came to pass, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the Sabbath day." Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?" As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the  people rejoiced at all the glorious  things that were done by him.

الإنجيل

فصلٌ شريفٌ من بشارةِ القديسِ لوقا

في ذلك الزمانِ كان يسوعُ يعلّمُ في أحدِ المجامعِ في السبتِ, وهناك امرأةٌ فيها روحُ مرضٍ من ثماني عشرةِ سنة, وكانت منحنيةَ الظهرِ لا تستطيعُ أنْ تنتصبَ. فلما رآها يسوعُ دعاها وقال لها: "أنتِ معافاةٌ من مرضِك. ووضعَ يديه عليها, فانتصبتَ في الحالِ ومجدّتِ الله. فقالَ رئيسُ المجمعِ للحاضرين وهو مغتاظٌ, لأنّ يسوعَ أبرأ  في السبتِ: "عندكم ستةُ أيامٍ ينبغي العملُ فيها, ففيها تأتون وتستشفون, لا في يومِ السبت!"  فأجابه الربّ: "يا مرائي! أما يحلّ كلّ واحدٍ منكم رباطَ ثورٍه أو حمارِه في السبتِ من المذودِ ويأخذه ليسقيه؟ وهذه ابنةُ إبراهيم ربَطَها الشيطانُ من ثماني عشرة سنة, أما كان ينبغي أن تُحَلّ من رباطِها يومَ السبت؟" ولما قال هذا, خزي جميعُ معارضيه, وفرحَ الجمعُ بكلّ الأعمال المجيدة التي كان يعملُها.

TODAY’S SAINT

Menas, Hermogenes, & Eugraphos, Martyrs of Alexandria

Saint Menas, according to the Synaxaristes, had Athens as his homeland. He was a military officer, an educated man and skilled in speech, wherefore he was surnamed Kallikelados ("most eloquent"); Eugraphus was his scribe. Both had Christian parents. The Emperor Maximinus (he was the successor of Alexander Severus, and reigned from 235 to 238) sent Saint Menas to Alexandria to employ his eloquence to end a certain strife among the citizens. Saint Menas, having accomplished this, also employed his eloquence to strengthen the Christians in their faith, which when Maximinus heard, he sent Hermogenes, who was an eparch born to unbelievers to turn Menas away from Christ. But Hermogenes rather came to the Faith of Christ because of the miracles wrought by Saint Menas. Saints Menas, Eugraphus, and Hermogenes received the crown of martyrdom in the year 235.
