NINTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Epistle: I Corinthians 3:9-17                                                          The Apostle Thaddeus of the Seventy

Gospel:  Matthew 14:22-54

Tone:  Eight

                                                              THE EPISTLE

Prokeimenon:  Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.

                                God is known in
Judah
; his name is great in
Israel
.

The reading is from
Saint Paul
's First Letter to the Corinthians.

BRETHREN, we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.  According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw - each man's work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and that temple you are.

THE EUCHARISTIC OFFERINGS

The Holy Oblations are offered at the Offertory of the Great Entrance today for the health and welfare of those living members, and for those departed this life in Christ, of the Marge and Pantel Families.

The Coffee and Reception Hour in the Church Hall is offered today by the Salloum and Saliba Families. NOTE: Please do not wait to sign up for offering the Coffee Reception held every Sunday after Liturgy. The chart is posted in the hall, as well as the list of responsibilities and items needed.

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS

1.       Today there will be a MEMORIAL SERVICE for the late Servant of God +GEORGE MARGE. For many years, George, husband of our parishioner Joanna Marge, was very active at St. Anthony’s especially in the Choir and musical productions of our parish. He fell asleep in the Lord twenty years ago. MEMORY ETERNAL!

2.       After the Liturgy today, we will baptize the newly born child, John Christopher Menetian. Many God grant John and his parents MANY YEARS!

3.       HOW TO RECEIVE THE HOLY EUCHARIST! If you desire to receive Holy Communion, first prepare yourself through fasting (abstaining – at least NO BREAKFAST!) and prayer. Then when the Chalice is brought forth from the Altar, approach it quietly (NO TALKING!) as you enter the center aisle, FOLD YOUR ARMS, right over left and remain quiet. As you approach the Chalice, SAY your Baptized Name, OPEN YOUR MOUTH WIDE,  and TILT YOUR HEAD BACK (only a slight tilt is necessary). It is recommended that you NOT bend your knees; Father Joseph and Deacon Peter are standing on the
Ambon, so they do have the height necessary (Bending can cause some people to stumble and/or get dizzy; merely tilt your head slightly back). Then, with your arms still crossed, back away from the Chalice (no need to Cross yourself when near the Chalice since some communicants in this way have dangerously bumped the Chalice). Quietly return to your seat and say the Prayers After Communion, while the remainder of the parish is receiving the Holy Eucharist.
