Classical Learning Resource Center Enrollment Open for Fall 2013

The Classical Learning Resource Center (CLRC), operating under the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Joseph, Diocese of Los Angeles and the West, has updated its selection of classes for the 2013-2014 school year. The distance-learning school's founders, John and Anne Van Fossen, are Antiochian Orthodox Christians based in Idaho. Read more about the school's philosophy and Orthodox roots in Anne's 2010 Antiochian.org interview.

The CLRC listed the following learning opportunities in their announcement:

Classical Greek and Latin:

Once again, we’ve expanded our Classical Greek and Latin program with more Latin 4 Kids classes and more advanced classes for middle school, high school, and adults. We now teach Latin classes for students as young as 6 years old all the way up to a second year college level. CLRC Greek classes are now available for students as young as 12 years old and continue to a second year college level. We also offer tutoring in both Greek and Latin and a wide variety of study aids and suggestions for all those who wish to acquire proficiency in these wonderful languages and to gain access to the beautiful literature they have been used to write.

Literature and Composition:

CLRC also offers three full-year Literature and Composition courses with a teacher who is exceptionally talented in online instruction. I’ve been overwhelmed this year by expressions of thanks and appreciation for Miss Kiernan’s Schroeder’s ability to teach and inspire her students. You’ll find more information about her Introduction to Literature and Composition, British Literature, and American Literature classes on the CLRC site.

Socrates, Homer, Byzantine Chant, Song Writing …

We’ve got more great course offerings in the works. You’ll receive details on those soon!

Summer Tour of England:

We still have a few spots left! Follow in the footsteps of literary giants such as Shakespeare, Dickens, Wordsworth, the Bronte sisters and more! Join Miss Schroeder, along with a dedicated tour guide, for eight days of travel around England. The group will visit the Lake District and see Wordsworth's daffodils, marvel at the moors around the Bronte sisters' Yorkshire home, see Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-Upon-Avon, and walk in the footsteps of Dickens through the streets of London. The tour will be complemented by a 10-week private course of readings and discussion to prepare for the trip. The course will be worth 1 high school English credit.

The registration deadline for this tour is April 25th so if you’re interested take a look today!

Summer Classes:

We have an outstanding lineup of summer classes this year as well from Narnia to Till We Have Faces, Shakespeare, Writer’s Boot Camp, Poetry, Plato, and summer tutoring in Classical Greek and Latin.

CLRC online classes are live, interactive, and available to anyone with internet access. You’ll find detailed course descriptions, faculty bios, class schedules, and more on the Classical Learning Resource Center website.
