AFR Releases New Holy Week Reflections by Fr. Thomas Hopko
Chesterton, Indiana— Available now at Ancient Faith Radio (AFR) are six reflections on the first three days of Holy Week by Fr. Thomas Hopko. These podcast episodes are brand new to the internet radio station and a perfect way to prepare for the final Orthodox church services prior to Pascha.
Father Thomas is Dean Emeritus of St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary and the author of numerous books and articles, including Christian Faith and Same Sex Attraction, published by Conciliar Press. His six reflections examine the significance of the Scripture readings and verses that are the focus of Holy Week. AFR has collected these reflections on a single page of its website.
Seeking to deepen and enrich the faith of Orthodox Christians around the world, AFR offers streaming audio programming and on-demand podcasts. It features liturgical music from a variety of Orthodox traditions, as well as prayers, readings, lectures, and interviews.
Conciliar Press Offers Timely Resources for the Lenten Season
As the first week of Great Lent draws near, Conciliar Press—the publishing arm of Conciliar Media Ministries—has released several new resources for Lenten reading.
The Hidden Garden: a story of the heart, by Antiochian children’s book author and editor Jane Meyer, is a parable that employs the imagery of the garden to teach children about the inner heart and the need to cultivate peace and beauty there. "I have long wanted to write a book for children that touches on the idea of the nous—that place within us that searches and longs for and knows God—where the heart and the mind are integrated and work as one with holy intentions and for holy purposes," explains Mrs. Meyer. "Children have an incredible capacity for touching and knowing God....But do they know that they can nurture and protect and tend that place within them where God resides?
Meditations for Great Lent is written by notable author Archimandrite Vassilios Papavassiliou.
AFR Posts Audio of Fr. Constantine Nasr Marriage Preparation Seminar
On February 8 and 9, 2013, Fr. Constantine Nasr, pastor emeritus of St. Elijah Orthodox Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and the author of Mastering the Art of Marriage published by Conciliar Press, conducted a marriage preparation seminar at the Antiochian Orthodox Basilica of St. Mary in Livonia, MI. The event was sponsored by the Mariam Center of Marriage and Youth Development, and the audio of all three sessions has been posted to Ancient Faith Radio (AFR).
OCF College Conference Audio Available on AFR
Students enjoy a lighter moment at 2012 College Conference EastIn partnership with the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF), Ancient Faith Radio has posted the talks from the 2012 OCF College Conferences as an AFR "Special." Held annually after Christmas at Antiochian Village (East) and St. Nicholas Ranch (West), the conferences draw college students from all part of the U.S. together for several days of workshops, fellowship, and lectures from top-notch Orthodox speakers.
In addition to the podcasts featuring talks on the theme "Trust in the Power and Love of God," the AFR line-up of conference audio includes the program "Orthodoxy Live with Fr. Evan Armatas," who conducted a live call-in show with the students at the College Conference East at Antiochian Village.
