September 21-23, 2012 + Antiochian Village

His Grace, The Right Reverend Bishop Thomas Joseph of The Diocese of Charleston, Oakland, and the Mid-Atlantic announces The Fourth Annual Deacons’ Retreat at the Conference Center, Antiochian Village, Friday to Sunday, September 21-23. (The retreat will be held simultaneously with the St. Thekla Pilgrimage and priests and laity are invited and urged to attend those sessions.)

The featured speaker and retreat master will be the Reverend Dn. Paul Zaharas, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Metropolis of Denver (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of North America).

Rev. Dn. Paul Zaharas was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming and grew up in the parish of Sts. Constantine and Helen. Following public schooling in Cheyenne, he attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie where he graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science/Mathematics. As a part of his undergraduate studies, Dn. Paul worked as an exercise physiologist, specializing in sport injury rehabilitation, and later as an orthopedic surgical assistant in Laramie.

In the fall of 1996, Dn. Paul began his studies at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. During his time at Holy Cross he began focusing on work with Orthodox youth. Likewise, he served as the Ecclesiarch of the Holy Cross Chapel on campus.

Upon the completion of his Master of Divinity degree in May 2000, at the request of His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah, Dn. Paul accepted the position of Metropolis of Denver Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. In February of 2002 he was ordained to the holy Diaconate by Metropolitan Isaiah at his home parish in Cheyenne.

Dn. Paul continues to serve in the Metropolis of Denver as Director of Youth Ministries and deacon to Metropolitan Isaiah.  Additionally, he is a member of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Youth Ministry Team and currently serves as chairman of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) Board of Directors.

Dn. Paul and his wife Celia live in Littleton, CO with their three children, Kyriake, Maximos, and Titus.
