Memory Eternal! + Fr. Peter Jacobsen

The Very Reverend Peter A. Jacobsen, an archpriest of the Antiochian Archdiocese of North America, died on May 27, 2015 in Orlando, FL with family members at his side. Father Peter was 84 years of age and had recently moved to Orlando after having served as rector of St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church of Silver Springs, FL. Prior to joining the Orthodox Church seventeen years ago, Father Peter served as an Episcopal parish priest for over 30 years.

Father Peter was born in Buffalo, NY on October 4, 1930 to Asta and Arthur Jacobsen. The family moved to Floral Park, NY where he graduated from high school, then continued his education at New York University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Father Peter also earned a Master of Music Education degree from Holy Names University in Oakland, CA.

Father Peter was an active musician and conductor, having played violin in both the Bridgeport (CT) and Hudson Valley (NY) Symphony Orchestras, as well as serving as the conductor of the North Fork Chamber Orchestra of Long Island. Father Peter was a professor at Sullivan County Community College (NY) where he taught music, humanities and philosophy, conducted many choral concerts, and directed several well received Gilbert & Sullivan operettas.

Father Peter is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Chase, and two sons, Philip and Paul. He is survived by his brother Clifford, of Lexington, KY, and daughter and son-in-law Claire and Joseph Hodge of Orlando, FL, Ashley & Kailen Hodge of Boston, MA, Janet Hodge Jones of Orlando, FL, daughter and son-in-law Martha and John Fisichello of Mathews, NC, Maria Fisichello Lopez and Connie Fisichello McCollister of Washington, DC, Mario Fisichello of Matthews, NC, daughter Jane Perez of Wurtsboro, NY, and daughter-in-law Sheila Smith Jacobsen of Rock Hill, NY, Alexandria Jacobsen Schmoeger of Pine Bush, NY, Spencer Jacobsen and Alyson Gallegos of Rock Hill, NY and Alexander Gallegos of Brooklyn, NY and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Roberts Funeral Home, 606 SW 2nd Avenue, Ocala, 352-622-4141. There will be a viewing and visitation at St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church at 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 30, just prior to the Funeral Liturgy at 4:00 PM. The church address is 5200 NE 29th Street, Silver Springs, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Marion County, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478.

Interment with Graveside Service will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens, NY.
