Antiochian Women: Five Major Events to Remember
But first remember...
Meet together often.
Together, read the scripture, read the lives of the Saints, read a book, prepare your cards to “our friends” and plan your acts of mercy.
Then, take care of your business.
Remember
I. Dues: Money that helps our local Diocese and money that helps our Archdiocese. $75.00 of the dues from every parish is sent on to the Archdiocese and the rest remains in our Diocese for our expenses and ministry.
Dues are to be sent by October 15, 2008 to the Treasurer of the AW of our Diocese:
Diocese of Miami and the Southeast Parish Life Conference: North Carolina Style
by Fr. Nicholas Sorenson
From June 18 through June 22, 2008, the Diocese of Miami and the Southeast gathered together for its annual Parish Life Conference, presided over by The Right Rev. Bishop ANTOUN. The members of All Saints Church in Raleigh, NC hosted this year’s conference, which was held at The Sheraton Imperial Hotel and Convention Center, Research Triangle Park, NC. The members of All Saints did an excellent job of organizing and managing the conference this year. With 29 parishes sending 175 adult delegates, 37 clergy, 16 clergy wives, 72 teens, and 42 children making a total of 342 attendees, the conference was a resounding success. All of the meetings and activities were well attended as were the worship services. The first Divine Liturgy on Thursday of the conference saw over 220 people and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Sunday (a very special celebration of the host parish’s feast day of All Saints) saw over 350 in attendance. For the youngest and smallest Diocese in our Archdiocese these figures are very encouraging and demonstrate that the Antiochian Orthodox Church is alive and well in the Southeast.
Prayers for Deliverance from Hurricanes
O LORD JESUS CHRIST HAVE MERCY ON US SINNERS!
As you saved your apostles from perishing in a storm by calming wind and waves on you command, so now keep us safe and sound in this hurricane season. Grant us favorable and benign weather. Protect us from the unpredictable elements of nature. Steer us from storm, flood, fire, illness, injury, disaster and sudden death. Preserve us from all evil and harm for we, though sinful, are nonetheless the work of Your hands. And You together with your Father who has no beginning and Your all holy good and life giving Spirit are our God in whom we live, move, and have being. Now and ever and unto ages and ages. Amen.
MOST HOLY THEOTOKOS SAVE US!
Seeing how your holy and powerful maternal intercessions and safe haven for the storm tossed, count us worthy of your prayers during this season of uncertain and threatening weather. Beg your divine human Son to grant us mercy, forgiveness, health, safety and salvation over the coming months. For He is sure to listen to you, His mother, the woman whom all generations call blessed. Amen.
ALL HOLY PROPHET ELIAS!
As the Lord gave you control over droughts and rainfall to prove His power to the wayward and unbelieving, plead with Him to keep stormy weather, heavy rains and destructive winds away from us. Help us with your heavenly intercessions for we know the prayer of a righteous man like you is powerful and effective as God is wondrous in His Saints. Amen.
