2010 Conference and Convention Theme

“The earth is the Lord's and its fullness. The world and all who dwell therein.”
(Psalm 23 [24]:1)

2010 Bible Bowl

The Letters of James, Peter (1 & 2) and John (1, 2 & 3), as found in the Orthodox Study Bible.

Practice Questions and Study Guides will be available in December at www.orthodoxyouth.org/ce

“All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the LORD endures forever.”

(1 Peter 1:24-25)

2010 Oratorical Topic

The Conference Theme: “The earth is the Lord's and its fullness, The whole world and those who dwell therein” reminds us that the world, all that is natural to the world, and specifically ourselves were created by and belong to God.

Examine:

  • The first chapter of the Book of Genesis
  • Chapters 23-25 of Psalms, as numbered in the Orthodox Study Bible (Septuagint numbering)
  • As well as other Orthodox writings on creation and ecology

Specifically Speak:

  • Concerning our responsibility to care for God's creation and what it means for you as a young person growing up in North America.
  • Since we are created by God and we belong to God, how does that change our worldview and how we relate to God's creation:
    • Plants, animals, air, water, soil, etc.
    • The people who dwell upon the earth
    • Future generations of people and other living things that will live in this world
  • Share what the Church can do to change the current worldview of consumption towards one that sees manking as caretaker of God's Creation.

Don't Forget To:

Share the Orthodox Christian understanding of our relationship with God as His children, as His creation, and how that understanding impacts upon how we are called to care for the world and those who live upon it.
