2010 DOWAMA Clergy Brotherhood Retreat
Our 2010 DOWAMA Clergy Brotherhood Retreat was crowned with the Divine Liturgy for the Leavetaking of the feast Meeting of the Lord in the Temple concelebrated this morning at St. George Cathedral in Wichita, Kansas by Archimandrite Zacharias and Hieromonk Petros of the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex, England and Fr. James Shadid and Dn. Anthony baba of the Cathedral. Father Zacharias preached the homily in which he addressed the providential confluence of the Leavetaking with the Marcan gospel pericope appointed for this Friday of the Week of Meatfare. All of the brothers chanted the responses together, led by our new DOWAMA Clergy Brotherhood Choir under the direction of Fr. David Barr of St. Elias/Austin, TX.
As is our longstanding DOWAMA tradition, the Divine Liturgy ended with all of the clergy concelebrating the Trisagion Prayers of Mercy for the repose of the souls of the departed clergy and clergy wives who have served our congregations from the founding of our first parish (St George/Kearney, NE) in 1904. Since last year's retreat two of our beloved brothers fell asleep in Christ, Fr. Thomas Neustrom of All Saints/Salina, KS (+March 8th) and Fr. James Kenna of St. Sophia/Dripping Springs, TX (+July 26th). Memory eternal!
A Lenten breakfast and business meeting of the Clergy Brotherhood, followed by relaxed fellowship at the Open House at the Chancery, ended our 38th annual retreat. Many years to all who helped to make this year's retreat yet one more soul-profiting experience for our Clergy Brotherhood. Glory to God for all things!
