A Word from Metropolitan Philip Regarding Sacred Music

From May 7, 1997:

Metropolitan Philip stated at the Synod of Bishops Meeting that our Archdiocese has historically effected a synthesis of the Byzantine, Slavic and other traditional styles of Orthodox liturgical music in the English language ... While the Byzantine style (of liturgical music) is certainly to be encouraged, especially at Vespers and Orthros, the Metropolitan asked the bishops to keep in mind that other traditional styles are also 'appropriate in our pan-Orthodox experience in this country'.
