Sandra Anderson was born in New Hampshire, grew up in Florida and found her way to Minnesota's Twin Cities in the 1980s. She possesses an innate understanding of people and has the gift to connect and engage them with care and compassion.
Her career began in the electronics industry in the distribution field. She served on the Board of Women in Electronics (WIE) from 1984 to 1993. Her faith and her passion to serve led her to accept a newly created position at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, her parish of eight years at the time (around 2002). St. Mary's was seeking to enrich the role of ministries in the life of the parish. Engaging volunteers, connecting with the community and being an effective steward of parish resources of time, talent and treasure, Sandra was a natural fit in this role which ultimately became a permanent, full-time position. As the parish grew, so did the ministries. Sandra has worked with the priests, the youth director, parish council and countless volunteers to continue to develop the opportunities for the parish and its parishioners to serve within their community and to extend to the cities beyond.
Commitment to the core values of the Church is vital to Sandra who serves as the co-administrator of the church school and has been board member of the parish Philoptochos chapter. Expanding our call to serve those in need, Sandra helped co-found the Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry of Minnesota. This ministry includes weekly Bible studies on site and welcome dinners at the parish to assist in transitioning those seeking to live a new life of freedom and faith. Her exuberance and tireless service are shared with additional boards and steering committees throughout the community dealing particularly with the issues of youth and adult homelessness.
Sandra lives in Minneapolis with her husband John and their two cats, Yianni and Nikko.
